Soccer: Millers, Tigers & Royals rule the pitch

The Noblesville girls soccer team clinched its fourth consecutive Hoosier Crossroads Conference championship on Wednesday, beating Franklin Central 4-0 at Hallmark Orthodontics Soccer Complex.

The Class 3A No. 1 Millers got their first goal in the fifth minute, when Sydney Elliott scored off an assist by Meredith Tippner. Noblesville then put in two goals during the ninth minute: Meskerem James scored the Millers’ second goal of the game, immediately followed by Ava Bramblett putting in the third goal, off another Tippner assist. Emma Gutknecht scored Noblesville’s fourth goal in the 59th minute, with Stella Scroggin making the assist.

The Millers finished 6-1 in the conference and completed their regular season 13-1. Noblesville hosts Sectional 8 this year and will play Fishers Tuesday in a first-round game.

In a Wednesday all-county game, 3A No. 7 Fishers beat 2A No. 5 Guerin Catholic 1-0 at the Tigers’ field.

Anna Pettitt scored Fishers’ goal, with Emmy Streeter making the assist.

The Tigers finished regular-season play 10-4-2 and travel to the Noblesville sectional on Tuesday to play the Millers. The Golden Eagles completed their regular season 7-7-2 and host Sectional 26 next week, opening play Tuesday by taking on Bishop Chatard.

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 2 in 3A, cruised past 3A No. 19 Mount Vernon 4-1 on Wednesday in the Royals’ regular-season finale.

Tatum Coleman scored two goals for Southeastern, with Caroline Kelley and Riley Boyd both scoring one. Coleman, Norah Wans, Makenzie Loftin and Cole Lance each handed out one assist. Addy Ash saved a shot out of the corner, and Lance played strong in the midfield.

The Royals are 13-2 and play Muncie Central Tuesday in the first round of the Noblesville sectional.

Sheridan dropped a 2-0 home game to 1A No. 19 Tipton Wednesday.

The game was scoreless at halftime, then the Blue Devils put in two quick goals, scoring the first one with 20 minutes left and the second goal a few minutes later.

The Blackhawks host Taylor at 7 p.m. tonight to finish the regular season.

Hamilton Heights dropped a 3-1 game Wednesday at Pendleton Heights to finish the regular season.

The 2A No. 20 Huskies scored first, with Cassidy Felger getting the goal off an assist by Ella Hickok. But the Arabians took over in the second half, when they scored all three of their goals.

Heights is 11-5-1 and travels to Sectional 24 at Yorktown on Tuesday to play New Castle in the first round.

Westfield fell to Avon 4-1 Wednesday in its Hoosier Crossroads Conference and regular-season finale.

The 3A No. 14 Shamrocks finished conference play 2-4-1 and are 6-6-4 overall. Westfield hosts Sectional 10 next week and plays Zionsville in a Tuesday first-round game.
