How ‘bout them Hawks?! Sheridan High School varsity football team advances to 5-0 in the Hoosier Heartland Conference (HHC) and 5-1 overall after their statement victory to the Taylor Titans.

Leading into the night, MaxPreps had Sheridan losing prior to kickoff. The Titans had high hopes going into the game, only to be shut out the whole night. This would mark a Taylor Titan massacre.

Friday night’s win was a collective team effort moving forward for the Hawks on both sides of the ball. Senior team leaders, Peyton Cross and Jacob Jones, led the way scoring two touchdowns apiece, both tallying up a grand total of more than 300 rushing yards. Sophomore Caleb Alexander added two rushing touchdowns of his own and one passing touchdown to Jones. Jones made a remarkable statement that night on defense, shutting down the run game. Junior Zach Bales also contributed with a fumble recovery and numerous tackles for loss. Not to mention, senior Dagan Johnson and junior Trent DeCraene added several tackles for no gain. The Taylor offense was shut down all night long.

This was a monumental victory for the Sheridan Blackhawks and legendary coach, Bud Wright, marking his 440th coaching victory with the Blackhawks. Bud Wright has not only achieved 440 wins, but this is his 56th year coaching the Sheridan Blackhawks on his home field and 57th year as a coach in his football coaching career.

Sheridan continues to prove their worth week after week after losing the season opener against rival Western Boone. The Blackhawks have outscored the last five opponents 248-21. Penalties are the only thing setting this team back from greatness.

A storm is brewing in the Sheridan Blackhawks football team and it’s not looking good for opponents. The Hawks are a force to be reckoned with.

Sheridan looks to take on another non-conference matchup next Friday against the North Central Thunderbirds at Farmersburg. They will be looking to push toward another Blackhawks victory while not having to worry about maintaining first place in the Hoosier Heartland Conference.

Sheridan and Bud Wright have a bright future ahead this season with loads of work to come. A conference title might be in the near future for the rolling Blackhawks.
