‘Blazers overwhelmed at Decatur Central

The University Trailblazers ran in to a buzzsaw Tuesday night at Decatur Central as the host Hawks put a 78-50 thumping on the Blazers.
The Mid-State Conference tri-champions put up 28 points in the first quarter and 21 more in the second quarter to take a commanding 49-22 halftime lead and coasted to a Senior Night triumph.
University led 6-5 three minutes in to the contest on two Nate Jeffrey baskets and a pair of Larry Pierce foul shots, but the Hawks scored the next 8 points of the game to take the lead for good and scored 15 points in the last three minutes of the opening period to lead 28-12 at the end of the first.
It was more of the same in the second quarter as Decatur Central outscored University 21-10, ending on a 7-0 spurt.
Pierce had 15 points to lead University while Jeffrey had 13. Seth Hogg had seven points with Steven Scott coming off the bench to add six.
University finishes the regular season at 13-9. The Trailblazers drew a first round bye in Class 2A Sectional 42 and will meet the Covenant Christian vs Indianapolis Scecina winner in the second game on Friday, March 4. Sectional 42 will be played at Park Tudor.
