Wrestling state finals: Vest, Platonov, Tilton advance to quarters

Three Hamilton County wrestlers advanced to the quarter-finals of the IHSAA state finals after winning first-round matches Friday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Two of those wrestlers are from Westfield. Senior Braxton Vest pulled out a 120-pound first-round victory over Munster sophomore Christopher Bohn by a 5-4 decision. Vest will wrestle Bellmont senior Isaac Ruble in the quarter-finals, which begin at 9 a.m. this morning. Another Shamrocks senior, Mihail Platonov, won a decision at 285 pounds, beating Columbia City senior Ian Clifford 4-1. He will take on New Prairie senior Hunter Whitenack in the quarter-finals Saturday morning.
Hamilton Heights junior Evan Tilton advanced 182 pounds by beating Delphi senior Kooper Kinsler in a 7-4 decision. Tilton takes on Fort Wayne Snider freshman De’Alcapon Veazy in the quarter-finals this morning.
Quarter-final matches begin at 9 a.m., with the semi-final matches to follow. All wrestlers that advanced will compete in three matches to determine the top eight in each weight class. The consolation finals start at 4:30 p.m., with the championship matches beginning at 7:30 p.m.

132 pounds: Michael Major (Carmel) lost to Cheaney Schoeff (Avon) by decision, 3-0
138 pounds: Ike O’Neill (Westfield) lost to Julius Gerencser (Daleville) by major decision, 10-2
145 pounds: Nayl Sbay (Carmel) lost to Hayden Watson (Center Grove) by fall, 3:17
170 pounds: Ryan Cast (Hamilton Southeastern) lost to Ben Phillips (Charlestown) by decision, 7-2
195 pounds: Max Broom (Hamilton Southeastern) lost to Gage DeMarco (Chesterton) by decision, 9-6
220 pounds: Jacob Long (Noblesville) lost to Blake Heyerly (Adams Central) by decision, 7-0
