Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank and Trinity Free Clinic have been selected to participate in Giving Machine Indy this holiday season, offering residents a hands-on way to support neighbors facing food insecurity and barriers to health care.
Opening Nov. 18 between the Carmel Christkindlmarkt and Hotel Carmichael in Carmel, the Giving Machine allows visitors to select a charitable donation through an interactive vending machine experience.
Instead of purchasing an item for themselves, donors choose an item or service to benefit someone in need through a participating nonprofit. Examples of items include purchasing a dozen eggs, school break meals, and more for the food bank, or antibiotics, eye glasses, or heart medicine for the clinic.
Donations designated for Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank will support its work supplying food to local pantries and feeding programs. Donations designated for Trinity Free Clinic will support free medical, dental, and vision services for uninsured, underinsured, and low-income Hamilton County residents.
“No family should have to wonder where their next meal will come from,” said Suzanna Hobson, executive director of the Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank. “The Giving Machine offers a simple way to help us stock pantry shelves and put food on our neighbors’ tables. We’re thrilled to be part of this initiative that turns the spirit of giving into something tangible for Hamilton County families.”
“Good health shouldn’t be out of reach for any family in our community, especially during the holidays,” said Mel Wischmeyer, executive director of Trinity Free Clinic. “The Giving Machine provides a way to help neighbors get the medical, dental and vision care they need, from a checkup to a filling to a new pair of glasses. We’re grateful to be part of an experience that turns the spirit of giving into healthier, brighter days for local residents.”
The Giving Machines are part of the Light the World initiative sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The church covers the initiative’s operating costs, allowing 100 percent of donations to go to participating nonprofits.
Residents, families, and businesses are invited to make a visit to the Giving Machine part of their holiday traditions and select donations benefiting either organization.
The Giving Machine will be available from Nov. 18 through Jan. 3, and is open 24 hours while the machine is on site near the Carmel Christkindlmarkt. Please note that the Carmel Christkindlmarkt does not open until Nov. 21.
