Wayne “Alan” Farley

Wayne “Alan” Farley, Atlanta, Ind., passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 64. He was born on July 5, 1962, in Tipton, Ind., to his parents, Bill and Dee Farley. Known for his funny, dedicated, loyal, and resilient character, Alan’s life was a testament to his strong spirit and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.

A lifelong resident of Atlanta, he completed grade school as an Atlanta Gopher, later graduating from Hamilton Heights High School in 1981. He was brought up in love by his mom and dad and shared countless fond memories with his devoted brother Fred and many cousins. As a young boy, you could find Alan hanging out at the local feed store, roaming the town by bicycle, doing odd jobs at Bargain Bob’s, or visiting the Larry Cook Family. No matter how far he traveled his heart remained in Atlanta.

Alan was a devoted public servant, having retired from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office after proudly serving his community for 40 years. His commitment to the safety and well-being of those around him was evident in his daily work, and his achievements were notable. In 1984 at the age of 22, he became the youngest Marshal in the state, serving the Town of Atlanta. Less than a year later, he enrolled in the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, hiring on at HCSO after graduating. During his early years at the department, Alan met and married Tammy Ward-Farley, the mother of his beloved children; they were together for 18 years. He spent 14 years sharing laughter, travels, and many fond memories with Vicky Tyner, whom he also met while working at the department. He cherished everyone he had the pleasure of working alongside – so much so that “Farley” never wanted to retire.

Despite his professional accomplishments, what mattered most to Alan were his two boys and his family. He was a loving father, a devoted brother, uncle, and friend who spent his time with those he loved. Alan had a passion for being on the road; working, traveling, visiting friends, touring cemeteries, or just sightseeing, often in his 1923 Ford T-Bucket. He was a Green Bay Packers enthusiast; he enjoyed attending games with his son John. He also had a heart for NASCAR racing, spectating Daytona 500s with his son Andy. He was a season ticket holder for the Indy Fuel, enjoying countless games accompanied by his great nieces, great nephews, or whoever was lucky that week.

Most days, Alan could be found joking with patrons at Don Bailey’s Barbershop or the Exxon station in Noblesville. Alan had an affinity for good TV, having the ability to recite almost every episode of The Andy Griffith Show. He also spent time watching many documentaries and reading about historical events.

Alan is survived by his sons, John (MiLea) Farley and Andy (Annie) Farley; his brother, Fred (Jennifer) Farley; his nephews, Billy (Leah) Farley and Joe (Micah) Farley; and Aunt Betty Thomas.

A visitation will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Atlanta Christian Church, 200 E. Main St., Atlanta. A memorial service will follow at the same location at 3 p.m. Alan’s care and services are under the direction of Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Homes – Cicero.
