Mary Elizabeth Clark

April 6, 1928 – May 14, 2026

Mary Elizabeth (Moss) Clark, 98, Carmel, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2026. She was born April 6, 1928, in the small community of Chloe in Calhoun County, W.V., to James Walter Moss and Cynthia Mae (Jarvis) Moss. She graduated from high school in Lodi, Ohio, where the family moved to during WWII, and on February 28, 1948, married the love of her life, Richard L. Clark. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and love.

Mary Elizabeth devoted her life to being a Christian wife, homemaker, mother, and servant of the Lord. For many years, she faithfully taught Sunday School alongside her husband. Long before seat belts were common, their car was often filled with children they brought to church each week. Seeing young lives touched by the Gospel brought them immense joy and fulfillment.

Growing up during a time when families depended upon the land for survival, Mary Elizabeth carried those values throughout her life. She and Richard planted and harvested large gardens every year, raising much of the food they shared with family and friends. Her yard overflowed with beautiful flowers which reflected the care and beauty she poured into everything she did.

Mary Elizabeth was gifted with remarkable creativity and talent as a seamstress, lovingly making clothing for her family, including suits for her husband. She was also known for crafting beautiful, beaded jewelry. Even as her eyesight faded with age, she continued designing necklaces and earrings for others. If you visited her home, chances were you left wearing one of her lovingly handmade creations.

In addition to her parents, Mary Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, Richard Lelan Clark.

Survivors include her loving family; daughter, Linda K. (Michael) Shelton; granddaughter, Bethany Shelton; grandson, James (Lillian) Shelton; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Family and friends will gather at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Trinity Baptist Church, 1415 E. 191st St., Westfield, where the Funeral Service will begin at 7 p.m.

A Committal Service will take place at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, Ohio, alongside her husband.

In memory of Mary Elizabeth, contributions may be made to World Baptist Fellowship Missionary Agency, P.O. Box 13459, Arlington, TX 76094.

Bussell Family Funerals is privileged to assist the family with arrangements.
