Baseball roundup: Golden Eagles fall to Lapel

The Guerin Catholic baseball team lost at Lapel 12-9 on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles started the game with three runs in the top of the first inning. Ben Canada scored the first run on Karson Smith’s RBI fielder’s choice, then Grant Beard doubled in Ian Taylor and Smith.

The Bulldogs came back to score four runs in the bottom of the first. Guerin Catholic answered with four runs in the top of the second inning. Brody Cain batted in Liam Zorger, Tate Troxell singled in Canada for the go-ahead run, then Smith blasted a two-run single to bring in Taylor and Troxell.

The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 9-4 with two runs in the third inning. Nolan Ratcliff doubled Zorger home, then Cain scored on Canada’s sacrifice fly. Lapel scored two runs in the fourth inning, then put up six runs in the fifth to take the lead and eventually win.

Smith and Beard both had two hits.

Guerin Catholic is 17-3-1 and hosts Beech Grove this afternoon.

Sheridan fell to Eastern 11-3 in a Wednesday away Hoosier Heartland Conference game.

Both teams scored a run in the second inning; Crew Spencer got the Blackhawks’ run on Jake Hall’s sacrifice fly. The Comets put up five runs in the third inning to take control of the game.

Sheridan scored its other two runs in the sixth inning. Braelan Bochner got home on an error, then Austin Hinshaw scored on a wild pitch.

Hinshaw finished with two hits, including a double.

The Blackhawks are 3-3 in conference play and 8-9 overall. Sheridan hosts Clinton Prairie this afternoon in another HHC game.
