The school board has responsibility for major district functions including school district governance and oversight, setting school policies, approving funding, strategic planning, and hiring and evaluating the superintendent.
- The board recognized several student groups for their state achievements including NEMS & NWMS wrestling and show choirs, NWMS robotics, and NHS journalism, jazz, gymnastics, and swimming and diving.
- White River Elementary presented on the “little things” that make their school culture so special and honored their PTO president with an award.
- Ryan Rich, Assistant Superintendent of Learning, presented on the state’s new accountability system. This was an update on the district’s strategic plan element of Academic Excellence.
- The board approved new property and casualty insurance at a cost savings thanks to the district’s strong risk management polices and practices.
- Meal prices for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year were approved to address rising costs, with an increase of 15 cents to breakfast and 40 cents to lunch. Click here to learn more about our free and reduced meal pricing for families in need.
- Superintendent Dr. Dan Hile shared that he will be presenting a financial update at the May 19 school board meeting that will include analysis and initial thoughts regarding a potential continuation of the district’s operating referendum. The current referendum generates approximately 20 percent of the district’s operating budget and is scheduled to expire at the end of 2026. The board will decide at their June 9 meeting whether to move forward with a community vote on the matter.
