Westfield Washington Public Library launches new strategic plan

Three-year roadmap focuses on programs, partnerships & community impact

The Westfield Washington Public Library (WWPL) has introduced a new three-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening its role as a community hub.

Sollars

Executive Director Sheryl Sollars said the plan reflects a shift from past efforts focused on expanding physical space to enhancing services, programs, and community connections. The library moved into a new 43,000 square-foot space building at the corner of Westfield Boulevard and Park Street in 2024.

“Now that we have the space, the question becomes: how do we use it in the best possible way for our community?” Sollars said. “We want everything we do – from programs to partnerships – to feel meaningful and truly meet people where they are.”

The updated plan introduces a new vision and mission to guide the library’s future.

  • Vision: Connecting our Community
  • Mission: Providing our community with welcoming spaces, impactful experiences, and a variety of resources

To support this vision and mission, the plan is built around three strategic directions: creating community connections, welcoming the community, and nurturing a strong library culture.

Residents can expect to see expanded outreach for all age groups, including stronger connections with elementary, middle, and high schools. Plans include developing a partnership strategy and dedicating staff to youth programming.

The plan was developed with guidance from Fast Forward Libraries and informed by community surveys, focus groups, and interviews with local leaders, staff, and the library board.

Sollars said the plan will be actively evaluated each quarter to ensure it remains relevant and community-focused.
