Nancy Louise Achenbach

June 6, 1950 – April 15, 2026

It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Nancy Louise Achenbach on April 15, 2026. Nancy was born in Elwood, Ind., on June 6, 1950, to Robert and Marie Blackford. She was widowed after a loving marriage to Phillip Achenbach that began on June 27, 1969.

Nancy was a dedicated court reporter, serving the Circuit and Superior I for 29 years. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her love for her family and friends. She was always on the go and was a generous caregiver who found joy in helping others. Nancy enjoyed her time on the farm, loved gardening, mowing the yard, and cooking. She also found enjoyment in assisting the White River Township Fire Department with Phil and word searches later in life. Nancy was a beacon of compassion, generosity, and support to all who knew her.

Nancy was a loving mother to Darlene (Dan) Tucker and Edward (Julie) Achenbach. She delighted in her role as a grandmother to Braydon (Sarah) Achenbach, Nathan Achenbach, Ean Achenbach, Cameron Sutton, Kailey Sutton, Ava Tucker, Alexis Tucker, and Dylan Tucker. She was a beloved sister to David (Carol) Blackford, Dwight (Pam) Blackford, and Mona (George) Buss. She loved her nieces and nephews and all of her family. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Marie and Robert Blackford, and her loving husband Phillip Achenbach.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2026, at Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. A funeral service to celebrate Nancy’s life will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the same location with Pastor Neal Brown officiating. In memory of Nancy, contributions may be made to Omega Christian Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
