Dear Editor:
For the second year in three, Carmel’s local government spent more than in took in – $17 million to be exact. In 2023, they overspent by $45.7 million.
In both cases, the major single source of revenue came from borrowing – redevelopment bonds, chiefly.
As other Hamilton County cities are trying hard to imitate Carmel, their taxpayers can go to school on Carmel’s inability to balance the books.
Virtually all debt came about without taxpayer approval.
And the sky’s the limit for borrowing and spending “servants of the people.”
