The Fishers boys swim team won its own sectional on Saturday, Feb. 21.
The Tigers scored 516 points and picked up seven event wins. Fishers also qualified 13 swims for this Friday’s IHSAA state prelims at the IU Natatorium.
Caden Askren was a triple winner for the Tigers. He placed first in the 500 freestyle, then came back to swim in Fishers’ winning 200 and 400 free relays.
Other Fishers individual winners were Elijah Fishman in the individual medley, Alex Koo in the 50 free and Logan Senior in the backstroke. Mason Lawson and Kirby Danglade finished 1-2 in diving with exceptional scores: Lawson totaled 640.90 points and Danglade scored 630.40 points.
The Tigers had 11 swims qualify under the state cut, while two swims received callbacks. Those were Qwinton Upshaw in the IM and Brody Chop in the 500 free.
Hamilton Southeastern placed second as a team and qualified eight swims to state.
Camden Bailey led the Royals by winning the 200 free. Five more Southeastern swims qualified under the cut, including Zachary Marchisin and Bryce Salvadori in the 500 free. Marchisin also received a callback in the butterfly, as did the HSE medley relay.
Hamilton Heights’ Aiden Clarke received two callbacks, qualifying in the IM and 500 free.
Barger 15th at LC sectional
University’s Nolan Barger competed in the Lawrence Central swimming sectional finals on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Barger placed 15th in the breaststroke with a time of 1:08.71.
