The Indiana Alliance of YMCAs has received significant multi-year investment from the Dekko Foundation in support of the Indiana Youth and Government (INYaG) program.
This commitment reflects the Foundation’s confidence in the Alliance’s efforts to expand civic education and develop young leaders across its six Indiana counties of interest.
The Dekko Foundation approved this investment in recognition of the Alliance’s statewide work to deepen students’ understanding of civic responsibilities, democratic processes, and constructive engagement in their communities. When young people understand how government works and experience civic leadership firsthand, they are more likely to vote, volunteer, and contribute meaningfully to the communities they call home.
This multi-year pledge provides essential stability as the Alliance continues to grow Youth and Government throughout Indiana. Annual funding – paired with opportunities for additional support as new delegations are launched – will help ensure sustained momentum and long-term program development.
Indiana Youth and Government offers middle and high school students a hands-on, model government experience. Participants research issues, draft policy, engage in legislative debate, present judicial cases and learn to lead with integrity and confidence. With more than 300 students anticipated at this year’s statewide conferences, the program remains one of Indiana’s most comprehensive civic learning experiences.
“We’re deeply grateful for Dekko’s investment in the long-term impact of Youth and Government,” said Shelby Lashbrook, State Director of Civic Engagement. “This partnership strengthens our ability to expand access, enhance program quality and support the next generation of Hoosier leaders.”
