The Westfield boys golf team made history while winning the Woodland Country Club High School Invitational on Wednesday.

The Shamrocks set a new school record with an 18-hole team score of 277, which is 11 under par. Three Westfield players finished under par: Jake Cesare carded 65 (seven under), Will Harvey finished with 68 (four under) and Ryan Cesare scored 70 (two under). Hudson Kutchma scored 74 and Brayden Worthington totaled 75.

“We talk a lot about just putting ourselves in position,” said Westfield coach Josh Bryant. “These guys can get it done.”

All five Shamrocks golfers had multiple birdies. Jake Cesare drained six and also eagled hole No. 16. Harvey made five birdies, Ryan Cesare and Worthington both collected four and Kutchma had three birdies.

Bryant said that such high a number of birdies was a testament to the work his golfers put into their short game.

“Good to see them show out on a perfect course, perfect night,” said Bryant.

And the ‘Rocks players aren’t resting on their laurels either, despite being happy with their performance.

“I thought we did pretty well,” said Kutchma. “Nothing really too special out there, but I think we can play a little bit better.”

Carmel placed second with a team score of 300. Noah Johnson was the Greyhounds’ low man with a 73, followed by 75 from Ethan Hoagland and Davis Hutchens. David Connery totaled 77 and Alex Gardner scored 81. Two Greyhounds played as individuals: Max O’Neil scored 81 and Patrick Wolf totaled 84.

Guerin Catholic and Zionsville both scored 312. Eli Wessel led the Golden Eagles with 75, followed by Brady Wagner with 78 and Will Parenteau with 79. Johnny Quinn added 80 and Connor Trice scored 82.
