Westfield beats Carmel, Blazers take care of Lewis Cass

The Westfield baseball team beat Carmel 4-1 Monday in an all-county game at the Greyhounds’ Hartman Field.

The Shamrocks scored in the fourth inning when Ethan Colling doubled in Ian Wilson. Westfield then put up three runs in the seventh inning, starting with Beck Jordan’s left field hit that brought in Drew Law. Nick Fero doubled Matt Drozlek and Jordan home.

Drozlek had two hits, including a double. Logan Robe went four innings for the pitching win, striking out nine.

Silas Neal scored Carmel’s run in the seventh inning on Joseph Cunningham’s RBI groundout. Neal had two hits, while Cunningham pitched two innings in relief, striking out four.

The ‘Rocks are 10-1 and host Fishers Thursday to begin a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series. Carmel is 5-6 and hosts Terre Haute North tonight.

University beat Lewis Cass 4-1 in a Tuesday game at RoundTripper Academy.

The Trailblazers started with two runs in the first inning. Cooper Cammack smacked a right field triple to score Cooper Burnett, then Beckett Suh hit a sacrifice fly to bring Cammack home.

The Kings scored their run in the top of the second inning, but University answered with a run in the bottom of the second. The Blazers loaded the bases, then Griffin Wright scored when Ryan Castetter was hit by a pitch. Charlie Ranek scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to get University’s fourth run.

Castetter hit two doubles. Cammack went three innings for the pitching win, allowing no hits while striking out two. Caleb Stocker threw three innings in relief, tossing six strikeouts.

The Trailblazers are 5-5 and host Brownsburg this afternoon.

Hamilton Heights dropped a tough Hoosier Conference game at Tipton Tuesday, falling 8-7 in nine innings.

The Huskies scored a first-inning run when Nick Hulen scored on P.J. Wright’s RBI groundout. Heights put up four runs in the second inning: Luke Davis singled in Dillon Pitts, then Hulen sent a two-RBI hit into left field to bring in Josh Newton and Davis. Hickman singled in Hulen to give the Huskies a 5-0 lead.

The Blue Devils got on the board with a third-inning run, but Heights answered with two in the top of the fourth. Logan Hickman got home when Wright reached on an error, then Kyle Michael blasted a double to bring in Wright for a 7-2 lead.

But Tipton took over after that. The Blue Devils scored a run in the fourth inning, put up four runs in the fifth inning, then tied the game with an RBI double in the seventh, sending the game to extra innings. Tipton scored in the ninth inning to get the win.

Davis was 3-for-4, including a double. Wright also hit a double. Hulen pitched four innings, striking out eight, while Owen Robey relieved him and pitched 4.1 innings, tossing six strikeouts.

The Huskies are 2-6 and host Tipton this afternoon to complete the conference series.

Guerin Catholic lost a 2-0 Circle City Conference game Tuesday to Brebeuf Jesuit.

The Braves scored one run each in the first and third innings. The Golden Eagles were held to two hits, one single each for Karson Smith and Finn Holden. Tate Troxell pitched six innings, striking out 10.

Guerin Catholic is 1-1 in conference play and 6-3 overall. The Golden Eagles travel to Brebeuf this evening to complete the CCC series.

Fishers lost to Class 4A No. 3 Center Grove 6-2 in a Monday home game.

The 4A No. 2 Tigers scored first, putting up two runs in the fourth inning. Mayo Fernandez singled in Zander Carnahan for the first run, then Jase Ruggles scored on a wild pitch. But the Trojans scored four runs in the fifth inning and added two more in the seventh.

Carnahan had two hits, while Owen Lukac hit a double.

Fishers is 10-2 for the season.

Hamilton Southeastern dropped a 4-0 game to Bloomington South Monday at Ken Seitz Field.

Parker O’Steen hit a double for the Royals. Maddux Bach, Colin Kendrick and Jackson Bixler all had singles.

Southeastern is 4-8 and begins an HCC series with Avon tonight at the Orioles’ Field.

Sheridan fell to Northwestern 21-5 in five innings Monday.

Jack O’Land was 3-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs for the Blackhawks, while Chance Spencer counted a double among his two hits, driving in two RBIs.

Sheridan is 2-5 and plays a Hoosier Heartland Conference game this afternoon at Clinton Prairie.
