HCC boys wrestlers battle at The Mill

Noblesville hosted the Hoosier Crossroads Conference boys wrestling meet last Saturday at The Mill.

Brownsburg dominated the meet, easily winning the team trophy by scoring 283.5 points and placing first in nine of the 14 weight classes. Avon was second with 190.5 points, winning three weight divisions.

Fishers edged out Westfield for third place, as the Tigers totaled 157 points and the Shamrocks scored 154. Both had one individual champion.

Fishers junior Xavier Smith cruised through the 175-pound bracket, winning his first match by technical fall and his semifinal with a first-period pin. Smith defeated Noblesville’s Evan Nicholls in the championship with a 21-6 technical fall, improving his record to 29-3 for the season.

Westfield freshman Brayden Head was the 113-pound winner. After receiving a first-round forfeit, Head won his semifinal by technical fall, then beat Brownsburg’s MJ Hileman in the championship by a 10-3 decision. Head is 22-6 for the season.

Hamilton Southeastern had two wrestlers finish as runners-up: Landon Hicks at 157 and Cohen Davis at 165. Nicholls was the top finisher for the Millers.
