Sara A. O’Bannon

August 19, 1934 – October 15, 2024

Sara A. O’Bannon, 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Westminster Village.

She was born on August 19, 1934, in La Porte, the daughter of Paul and Marie (Ulrich) Tanger and graduated from La Porte High School.

Sara graduated from nursing school and worked as a Registered Nurse prior to her marriage to the late Robert O’Bannon. Mrs. O’Bannon was a long-time member of Carmel Lutheran Church, now known as Cornerstone Lutheran Church. She volunteered for many years preparing braille Bibles for the blind. Sara was a very devoted mother and grandmother, along with being a lover of cats. She enjoyed many vacations to the Gulf Coast of Florida over the years before eventually residing on Anna Marie Island later in life.

Survivors include her children, Robert O’Bannon (Mary), Christine McKeon (Dan), and Rosemary Robertson (Dave); three grandchildren, Faith, Jake, and Natalie.

Mrs. O’Bannon was preceded in death by her husband, Robert O’Bannon, brother of Frank O’Bannon who was Governor of Indiana from 1997 to 2003; a sister, Maryann Engle; two brothers, Phil Tanger and Paul Tanger “Buddy.”

Services will be 11 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, Carmel Campus, 4850 E. Main St., Carmel, with Pastor Luther Brunett officiating.

Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church.
