Two of Indiana’s preeminent psychiatrists, Dr. Joanna Chambers and Dr. Andy Chambers, have joined Aspire Indiana Health, a nonprofit provider of comprehensive healthcare services in Boone, Hamilton, Madison, and Marion counties.
A married couple, both have long records of public health advocacy and research.
Dr. Joanna Chambers will practice at Aspire’s Noblesville health center, serving adults with a specialty in women’s and perinatal behavioral health issues, according to Dr. Jerry Sheward, Associate Medical Director of Psychiatry.
Dr. Andy Chambers specializes in addiction psychiatry, and will practice at Aspire’s Indianapolis health center while supporting a number of other locations and services.
“Dr. Chambers brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our whole-health recovery model. The team is really excited to work with him,” Aspire Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jon Butler said.
“I’m delighted to welcome two highly skilled clinician leaders to Aspire. Their experience and qualifications will further strengthen the care we provide to patients,” Aspire President & CEO Antony Sheehan said. “They are leaders in their very sought-after fields: Dr. Joanna Chambers with her experience in women’s mental health and perinatal psychology, and Dr. Andy Chambers with his background in addiction and mental health. They will join a group of dedicated clinicians we’re proud to have at Aspire.”
Dr. Joanna Chambers earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and her medical degree at Medical College of Georgia, serving her psychiatric residency at Yale School of Medicine. She has spent the past 20-plus years working in a variety of teaching and administrative roles, including previously serving as adjunct clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine.
She takes a special interest in the psychological and neurological underpinning of attachment between mothers and infants, with the goal of improving mental and medical health across generations. She is also trained in addiction treatment.
Dr. Andy Chambers is a Professor of Psychiatry at IUSM and is Director of its Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Program. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemical physics from Centre College and his medical degree from Duke University, and completed his psychiatric residency at Yale School of Medicine.
His research has delved into the understanding of addiction pathogenesis and vulnerability in mental illness and adolescence, and he is currently participating in clinical trials for a potential breakthrough treatment for opioid withdrawal and addiction. Dr. Chambers authored the first addiction psychiatry textbook and clinical guide for fellows and treatment systems.
