Boys tennis: Hamilton County teams starting season off hot

The Noblesville boys tennis team began its season this week by splitting a pair of meets.

The Millers cruised past Pendleton Heights 5-0 Tuesday in their opener, not dropping a set in all five matches. In singles play, No. 1 Zane Panning won 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 Ethan Feliciano was a 6-1, 6-2 winner and No. 3 Max Habel won 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, No. 1 Jack Brenneman and Dane Campbell were victorious 6-4, 6-0 and No. 2 Parker Stallings and Dustin Turpin got a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Noblesville played Avon Thursday to start Hoosier Crossroads Conference play and lost a close match 3-2. The Millers won both doubles matches, with No. 1 Brenneman and Campbell getting a 6-1, 6-1 victory and No. 2 Stallings and Turpin winning 6-4, 6-3. The Orioles won all three singles matches, taking a very close No. 1 singles match in a third-set tiebreak.

Noblesville returns to action Tuesday when it plays at Fishers.

Hamilton Southeastern swept Brownsburg 5-0 in a Thursday HCC match.

The Royals picked up singles wins from No. 1 Alex Piercy, No. 2 Brady Stump and No. 3 Leo McVeigh. Southeastern’s doubles teams of No. 1 Landon Osswald and Tyler Rich and No. 2 Logan Foust and Ian Ransom also got victories.

The Royals play their next match Monday at North Central.

Carmel began the season with a 5-0 win over Hamilton Southeastern on Tuesday, and followed that with a 4-1 victory over Cathedral on Thursday.

The Greyhounds host their own Round Robin tournament on Saturday.

Guerin Catholic started its season with two victories this week.

The Golden Eagles won a 3-2 meet over Park Tudor on Tuesday, then beat Westfield Wednesday in an all-county meet. The Shamrocks rebounded on Thursday with a 5-0 sweep of Franklin Central in HCC play.

The Shamrocks play Saturday at the South Bend St. Joseph Tournament, while the Golden Eagles host Mount Vernon Tuesday.
