Tennis Roundup: Shamrocks easily win Delta Invite, Blazers open with two wins

The Westfield girls tennis team easily won the Delta Invitational last Saturday.

The No. 16-ranked Shamrocks swept through duals with West Lafayette, Brown County and No. 22 Delta, winning each competition by the score of 5-0. Isabella Norris dropped only one game in her three matches at No. 1 singles. Nos. 2 and 3 singles Juliette Grilliot and Addi Kooi both won all three of their matches in straight sets, including 6-0, 6-0 victories against Brown County.

In doubles, Carlie Lukowiak and Jenna Berry played No. 1 against West Lafayette and were 6-0, 6-0 winners. Later in the day, Lukowiak and Berry won against Delta in a third-set super tiebreak. The score of that match was 6-3, 3-6, 10-5. Lukowiak and Mary Grenda won a 6-0, 6-0 match against Brown County.

Westfield played at No. 18 Harrison Monday and lost a close match 3-2. Grilliot won 6-0, 6-0 while Kooi got a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

University began its season this week with two dual-meet victories.

The Trailblazers beat Western Boone 5-0 on Monday. University got 6-0, 6-0 wins from No. 1 singles Laurel Buttrick and No. 2 singles Duygu Arseven. Anisha Patel won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. The Trailblazers’ doubles teams of No. 1 Claire Kilgore and Kara Wang and No. 2 Sruti Atluri and Sarah Coleman also won (scores were not available).

On Tuesday, University swept Heritage Christian 5-0, winning all five matches in straight sets. Buttrick took her match 6-0, 6-1, Arvseven scored a 6-0, 6-0 shutout, and Patel won 6-0, 6-4. In doubles, No. 1 Kilgore and Wang won 6-3, 6-0 and No. 2 Lauren Quinto and Atluri won 6-1, 6-0.

The Trailblazers play Guerin Catholic today and Cardinal Ritter on Thursday.

Noblesville, the No. 10 team in the state, swept Brownsburg on Tuesday 5-0.

The Millers won all five matches in straight sets. In singles, No. 1 Bella Duncan was a 6-1, 6-2 winner, No. 2 Allie Stamm took her match 6-3, 6-0 and No. 3 Josie Flinchum cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. No. 1 doubles Lina Hamashuk and Cami Crist won 6-1, 6-1 and No. 2 Jayde Stamm and Ava Shoemaker got a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 29, fell to No. 15 North Central 4-1 on Monday.

Summer Wolf got the victory for the Royals.
