The City of Carmel has announced details surrounding the 2024 total solar eclipse. A Total Eclipse Viewing party will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 8 at Civic Square.
Members of the community are invited to join local officials for the special event. Mayor Sue Finkam will kick off the start of the eclipse at 1:30 p.m. with Carmel City Councilor Jeff Worrell and Hamilton County Councilor and Carmel Firefighter Tim Griffin serving as emcees for the day. The event will feature music throughout the day from local artists including The Bishops, Marielle Sellars, the Indiana Wind Symphony, and DJ Jesse White.
Carmel Police Chaplain George Davis will offer opening remarks, while the Carmel Fire and Police Departments will be on hand with plenty of family-friendly giveaways and educational materials for all to enjoy.
In addition, the All Things Carmel store will sell Carmel Eclipse merchandise including viewing glasses. The city will have an eclipse Instagram spot with the larger-than-life Eclipse Glasses to snap a commemorative photo.

For those who can’t make it to Civic Square, event partners with Midwest GeoSciences Group will be on location livestreaming the eclipse to the city’s YouTube, Facebook and Carmel’s Cable Channel.
Community members are encouraged to bike or walk, if possible. Civic Square and the surrounding roads will be closed for the event. Free public street and garage parking will be available.
