Guerin Catholic recovered from an early deficit to cruise into the Class 3A Sectional 27 championship game, beating Bishop Chatard 54-36 in the first Friday semifinal.
The 3A No. 6 and sectional host Golden Eagles trailed 14-9 after one quarter. But Guerin Catholic dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Trojans 18-3 for a 27-17 halftime lead. The Golden Eagles put up another 20 points in the third period to lead 47-24 and sustained that margin in the fourth quarter.
Robert Sorensen led the GC scoring with 21 points. Dylan Murans added 10 points while Andy Caron scored nine. Bryson Cardinal pulled nine rebounds. Jack Cherry dished out six assists and also collected five rebounds.
Guerin Catholic is 19-7 and plays 3A No. 1 Brebeuf Jesuit in tonight’s sectional title game, which tips off at 7 p.m. The Braves beat Heritage Christian 55-39 in the other semifinal.
