The Sheridan girls basketball team finished second at the Alexandria Tournament on Thursday.
The Blackhawks won their semifinal game over Beech Grove 56-40. Sheridan led 14-8 after one quarter, then dominated the second period to take a 32-14 halftime lead. The Hornets cut into that advantage during the third quarter, but the ‘Hawks led 42-30 going into the fourth and held on from there.
Kenzie Garner played an outstanding game, reaching double-double status with 26 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists. Cecilia Timme added 16 points; both Cecilia Timme and Sadie Timme collected seven rebounds each.
Sheridan fell to the host Tigers 54-37 in the championship. Alexandria is ranked No. 7 in Class 2A, but the ‘Hawks gave them a battle, coming back from a 16-13 deficit in the first quarter to lead 28-27 at halftime. Kenzie Garner had eight points in the second period. But the Tigers’ defense took over after that, allowing Sheridan just nine points in the second half.
Kenzie Garner had 14 points and nine rebounds, followed by six rebounds for Cecilia Timme.
Sheridan is 11-3 and plays Tuesday at Crawfordsville.
