The REPORTER

The Carmel Greyhounds managed to get back to their winning ways at home last night. It wouldn’t be an easy task, but they were able to hold off the visiting Wildcats, 17-14.

The Greyhounds might have been outgained in total yards by LN, 387-220, but forcing two turnovers helped Carmel find their way to their third win.

They got the scoring started in the first when they went seven plays for 52 yards, finishing the drive off with Jacob Bellin catching a 13-yard pass for a touchdown from Anthony Coellner to put Carmel up 7-0.

Lawrence North got its first score in the second. Freshman tailback Izayveon Moore broke off for a 69-yard scamper on the first play of that particular drive to tie it up at 7-7.

A couple minutes into the third quarter, Carmel kicker Josh Placzek connected on a 46-yard field goal for a 10-7 edge.

A short time later, the Wildcats took just 1:22 off of the clock. Davion Chandler caught a pass from Izayveon Moore on a halfback pass for a 73-yard touchdown, giving LN a 14-10 lead.

Carmel took advantage of the opportunity when they got the chance. The ‘Hounds used 3:16 of the latter part of the third period clock to go 40 yards in six plays.

They took the lead on a Coellner touchdown pass from 11-yards away to Ozzy Pollard. That gave the Greyhounds a 17-14 lead that they would keep.

Holding off LN, Carmel would lean on its defense in the fourth quarter in securing the home win.

Izayveon Moore ran for 100 yards exactly on 16 carries and a score to lead the Wildcats on the ground. Davion Chandler caught three passes for 93 yards, including the 73-yarder from Moore.

Lawrence North (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season. Their schedule gets even tougher as they host Ben Davis (4-1). The Giants edged Warren Central 31-28 last night.

Alijah Alfayyad led the Greyhounds’ ground game with 10 carries and 57 yards. Norvil Tucker added 46 yards on seven rushes. Nate Rogers caught six for 40 yards, while both Jacob Bellin and Ozzy Pollard grabbed two passes apiece and each scored a TD.

Carmel (3-2) gets to stay at home next week to face North Central (0-5). The Panthers were blown out at home by Cathedral, 49-6.
