Fishers overwhelmed by Bulldogs’ balanced offense

The REPORTER

Brownsburg took full advantage of playing at home and they wasted very little time showing Fishers that it’s not easy playing on the road in Hendricks County.

The host Bulldogs used a 21-point three quarter to outlast the visiting Tigers, 42-28.

Brownsburg got off to a 14-0 lead on drives that were just six minutes apart.

Corey Smith threw a 10-yard touchdown strike to Jake Dunn for the early 7-0 lead. Then, with 8:58 left in the second Garrett Sherrill scored on an eight-yard run to make it 14-0, capping off a 99 yard drive.

The Tigers came right back. Marching 80 yards in 11 plays, quarterback Bennett Gorak completed a 14-yard TD pass to Noah McPeek to cut it to 14-7.

Khobie Martin gave the Tigers a chance, punching it in from two-yards out. Jonathan Tangara’s PAT attempt was no good, leaving Fishers down 14-13.

Brownsburg continued their scoring in the third. Sherrill scored again, this time from seven yards that pushed it to 21-13.

Jake Dunn caught another pass for a touchdown from Corey Smith, this one from six yards, extending the lead further to 28-13.

Sekai Bogle cut it to a one score game for the second time. Bogle reached paydirt from eight yards. Gorak ran in the two-point conversion, making it 28-21.

Dunn snagged his third score, this second in the third, on a deep pass of 60-yards for a 35-21 Bulldog lead.

Fishers would once again cut it to a one score deficit. Gorak found JonAnthony Hall open for nine yards and a touchdown for a 35-28 count.

Just like Dunn, Sherrill found the end zone for his third touchdown of the night on a 76-yard run. This score made a statement and put the game away for the final of 42-28.

Garrett Sherrill was able to run free all night, carrying 24 times for 282 yards and three touchdowns. Corey Smith finished with six passes caught for 161 yards and three scores.

Brownsburg (5-0, 3-0 HCC) hits the road at No. 5 Westfield (5-0, 3-0 HCC) next week in a game that could possibly be for the HCC crown. Westfield won on a last-second score at Hamilton Southeastern on Friday, 30-28.

The Tigers were led by Sekai Bogle’s 83 yards rushing on 11 carries. Khobie Martin was held to just 54 yards on his 14 runs. JonAnthony Hall led in yards with 121 on five catches, while Noah McPeek caught seven for 58, each scoring. Millen McCartney also had a good night with three receptions and 88 yards.

Fishers (3-2, 1-2 HCC) has a home game next week to face the Avon Orioles (0-5, 0-3 HCC). Avon lost to Franklin Central last night, 31-28.
