Westfield Washington Schools (WWS) announces the completion of two significant projects that will expand opportunities for students and families: the Virginia F. Wood Early Learning Center (VFW ELC) Expansion and upgrades to the Monon Athletic Complex.
These projects reflect the district’s commitment to providing exceptional educational and extracurricular experiences as part of the Shamrock Experience.
VFW ELC Expansion
With the district’s continued growth, the VFW ELC has outgrown its facilities once again. The expansion adds 13 new classrooms, nearly doubling the number of children the center can serve, thereby providing more families with access to curriculum-based childcare at a reasonable cost.
Additional enhancements include:
- 4,800 square-foot multipurpose room
- Expanded parking and bus drop-off areas
- Expanded playground and enclosed play area
- Increased office space
- Geothermal HVAC system for energy efficiency
The project was designed by CSO Architects and constructed by CORE Construction, ensuring a functional, modern, and energy-efficient facility.
Monon Athletic Complex Upgrades
The Monon Athletic Complex has received state-of-the-art improvements to support athletics and community events. Upgrades include:
- Two softball fields with artificial turf and sports lighting
- Baseball field with sports lighting and press box
- Two multipurpose fields for rugby, lacrosse, soccer, and Unified Football, also equipped with sports lighting and a press box
These enhancements provide durable, high-quality playing surfaces for a variety of sports, which develop essential life skills, teamwork, and leadership while building school spirit. The athletics project was also designed by CSO Architects and managed by CORE Construction, delivering fields that meet the needs of all student-athletes.
Ribbon Cutting Celebration
The district invites families, students, and community members to celebrate the completion of both projects at a ribbon-cutting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6.
“These improvements and additions are investments in the Shamrock Experience to positively impact our students in our ongoing commitment to ensure each Rock, big and little, has the learning environment they need to be Life Ready,” Superintendent Dr. John Atha said.
