Community invited to ribbon cutting & grand opening on Aug. 18

The Westfield Washington Public Library (WWPL) and Westfield Washington Township (WWT) invite the community to celebrate the completion of the Read & Roam Garden with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The celebration will begin with a special story time in the Read & Roam Garden at 10:30 a.m., followed by the official ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m. Guests will be among the first to explore the completed garden and enjoy light refreshments.

The Read & Roam Garden was envisioned as part of the original plan for WWPL, which opened in 2024. It transforms the library’s outdoor space into a welcoming park and open-air classroom designed for reading, learning, play, and community gathering.

“It’s been so exciting to watch this space come to life,” WWPL Executive Director Sheryl Sollars said. “We imagined the Read & Roam Garden as an extension of the library – a place where our community can read, learn, play, and gather outdoors. We can’t wait to welcome everyone.”

The new space features shaded pergolas, reading nooks, fresh landscaping, and areas for outdoor programs and events.

“This project has truly been a team effort, and it’s wonderful to see this part of the original vision ready for the community to enjoy,” WWT Trustee Jamie Goetz Mills said. “We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this project possible and look forward to seeing families, children, and community members make lasting memories here for years to come.”

The Westfield Washington Public Library and Township extend their sincere appreciation to K.D. Landscaping for bringing the landscape design to life and Smart Pergola for providing the custom pergola structures that serve as focal points throughout the garden.
