Dear Editor:

Inflation is a tax.

We are paying 27 percent more today for consumer goods that they cost in 2011. At the same time, Carmel’s property tax burden on its citizens increased from $200 million to $510 million.

Governments love inflation since they pay off debt with dollars’ worth much less than when the borrowing began.

In Carmel’s case, that’s a $1.5 billion debt burden. The burden may be less in other cities, but the inflation “tax” is the same.
