Westfield reader: Time for Cook to start listening to the people

Mayor Cook,

The following is a Letter to the Editor in response to an editorial published in the Reporter on Dec. 23 authored by Westfield Mayor Andy Cook.

I do not write this to bring out more of your anger. I want to make the point that all voices should be heard, and thank God our government requires it.

But let’s get the facts right.

Many believe it is you who are not listening to the people and now has a “small group,” clearly not a majority of support. It was more than a small group who went to the polls and voted in 2019. It is time to accept the now 2020 changes in government leadership and adjust. Your hand-selected and approved people along with employees hired and fired by you who promoted GP, GJ Plaza, SR 32 and Tunnel have not and continue to not listen to any opinions that differ from yours.

We might have had better projects if you had welcomed more input. Meeting recordings repeatedly include complimentary and thankful remarks about City employees from new Councilors.

Could you please make an effort to eradicate bullying in City government? We know it is an issue with our young people/students. It should not be modeled to them in our government.

Saying things don’t make them true. Facts are important.

P.S. On your fight with the Clerk-Treasurer, the public supports the Clerk-Treasurer, so tread cautiously. The State Board of Accounts annual audits also support the Clerk-Treasurer.

God bless in this season when we celebrate the birth of our Savior.

  1. Linda thank you for that brilliant Letter To The Editor. You could have gone farther with your criticism of this administration . You hit the lack of leadership and ignoring the public right on the noise. I hope the Clerk Treasure insists that the State Board of Account does a full investigation of all city departments.

The first place the SBA can start is the purchase of land by the mayor son in the redevelopment area downtown Westfield before the downtown developments were made public. This purchase stunk like hell. SBA can get .to the financial dealing and explain how he paid for the land and then sold it to the city for a great deal more than he paid for it. Oh I’m sure the SBA will find many questionable dealing.
