Trailblazers sweep past Seeger, 66-40

The University girls made the long trek to Western Indiana Tuesday night a successful trip by scoring a convincing 66-40 win over Seeger.
The Class 2A No. 8 Trailblazers won their 11th consecutive game to improve to 13-2 on the season while handing Seeger just their fourth loss in 18 contests.
Senior Patty Chikamba led University with 22 points and 12 steals. Junior Kelsey DuBois also had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Payton Seay chipped in with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.
University never trialed in the game, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead. Payton Seay hit a three pointer, Jordan Patterson scored and Chikamba had a lay-in off a steal. The Patriots battled back to cut University’s lead to 11-9 and the end of the first quarter.
Seeger made a pair of foul shots early in the second quarter to tie the contest at 11 before Chikamba’s three pointer put University ahead to stay. The Trailblazers led 20-18 with three minutes to play in the first half before closing on a 10-4 run to lead 30-22 at halftime. DuBois had another putback basket, Kamryn Washington scored off a steal and Chikamba had a basket before Payton Seay hit University’s last two baskets of the half, including a deep two pointer at the buzzer.
University turned up the defensive intensity in the third quarter to open the game up. Patterson found DuBois for a basket before Chikamba scored off a steal. Washington had a steal and found Chikamba for a three pointer and a 37-24 lead just three minutes into the second half. University led 50-33 after three quarters and won going away.
Taylor Seay had seven points off the bench with Emily Adamowicz adding six. Washington had four points and Patterson two to round out University’s scoring.
Aubry Cole had 18 points to lead Seeger, including eight points from the foul line. The Patriots were 16 of 24 at the charity stripe.
University will return to The U Center Thursday evening to host the Indianapolis Homeschool Wildcats in a 6 p.m. varsity only contest. The Wildcats bring a 17-1 record in to the contest, having their 17 game winning streak snapped Monday by Warren Central.
