Tigers win fourth straight sectional title

The REPORTER

The Fishers boys swim team won its fourth consecutive sectional championship last Saturday.

The host Tigers scored 532 points to win their sixth sectional trophy in program history. In addition, Fishers qualified 11 swims for this weekend’s IHSAA state finals.

The Tigers picked up six event wins. Jonathan Hines was victorious in the 200 and 500 freestyles, while freshman Alex Koo claimed the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Hines was also on both of Fishers’ winning relays, joining Hudson Lee, Victor Herbert and Anthony Adams Jr. to claim the 200 free relay, then teaming with Lee, Thomas Johanneman and Luis Sanchez for the blue ribbon in the 400 free relay.

The Tigers’ medley relay team of Johanneman, Sanchez, Koo and Lee placed second, but were under the state cut time and earned a ticket to state. Sanchez and Adams Jr. both made cut times in two events: the individual medley and the 500 free. Jacob Schade placed fourth in diving to advance to the Homestead regional on Tuesday.

Hamilton Southeastern finished second as a team with 532 points. The Royals won three events, starting with their medley relay team of Jacob Frey, Collin Huston, Jihoon Jung and Derek Robison. Jung would come back to win the IM while Huston later finished first in the breaststroke.

Jung finished second in the butterfly, but did so in a cut time to qualify for state. That gave the Royals four swims advancing to state, and there is the possibility of callbacks for both Southeastern and Fishers.

Hamilton Heights placed fourth with 242 points, just shy of third-place Yorktown’s 251. The Huskies had two familiar divers move on to the regional: Ethan Swart took second and Nathan Cox was third. Swart is the defending state champion, while Cox was last year’s runner-up.
