Tennis: Hounds, Tigers, Rocks keep sectional streaks going

Three Hamilton County girls tennis teams kept their sectional championship streaks going after winning finals Thursday at their respective sites.

Carmel hosted Sectional 35 and claimed its 34th consecutive title. The No. 3 Greyhounds beat No. 1 Guerin Catholic 4-1 in a hard-fought match between two of the best teams in the state.

The Golden Eagles won the first match; No. 3 singles Anna Kolb won 6-0, 6-0. Carmel tied the meet after No. 1 doubles Madison Littell and Gabby Hall were victorious 6-4, 6-3. Minutes later, Brylie Price and Shravya Pillutla took the No. 2 doubles match 6-4, 6-2.

The clincher was No. 1 singles, where the Hounds’ Olivia Widjaja and Guerin Catholic’s Emily Pasman played a dramatic match. Widjaja won the first set 6-4 and held on to take the second set 7-6.

No. 2 singles Alexia Widjaja won her match in three sets.

Carmel will host the regional this year and play Crawfordsville at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.

Fishers won its sixth consecutive sectional title, sweeping Pendleton Heights to claim the Sectional 35 crown at the Tigers’ courts.

No. 1 singles Allison Briggs scored a 6-0, 6-0 shutout, while Ryan Bell claimed the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-3. No. 3 singles Addie Sharp recovered from dropping the first set 6-0 to win the next two 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles, No. 1 Imani Mokra and Lucy Clark were 6-1, 6-4 winners, while No. 2 Reva Peddi and Katie Bergman won 6-3, 6-1.

The No. 14-ranked Tigers advance to the Mt. Vernon regional on Tuesday. Fishers plays the winner of the New Castle sectional, which will be decided today between the Trojans and Blue River Valley.

Westfield won its third consecutive sectional title at the Noblesville Tennis Complex, beating the host Millers 5-0.

No. 1 singles Isla Harvey was a 6-0, 6-0 winner, with No. 2 singles Sloane Seyferth winning 6-1, 6-0 and No. 3 singles Alexis Halliburton getting a 6-1, 6-2 victory. In doubles, No. 1 Jenna Berry and Bella Rivera won 6-1, 6-1 and No. 2 Kendall Omer and Rayna Roy won 6-0, 6-3.

The No. 10-ranked Shamrocks return to Noblesville on Tuesday for the regional. Westfield takes on Alexandria at 4:45 p.m. in a semifinal matchup.
