Tennis: Fifth-ranked HSE stays unbeaten

The Hamilton Southeastern girls tennis team, ranked No. 5 in the state, swept No. 24 North Central on Monday.
The Royals won all three singles matches in straight sets: No. 1 Tea Vrkic won by the score of 6-4, 6-2, No. 2 Taylor Wolf was victorious 6-4, 6-0 and No. 3 Emma Bieberich won 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, the No. 1 team of Misha Bukkasagaram and Emily Orme triumphed in three sets, 6-0, 1-6, 6-4. No. 2 doubles Meghan Slaninka and Kaylee Etheredge got a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
“We really handled the wind well tonight and played smart,” said HSE coach Kirk Webber.
The Royals are 4-0 for the season.

Westfield, which entered the rankings at No. 16 this week, dropped a close 3-2 match to No. 18 Harrison on Monday.
The Shamrocks got their victories at No. 3 singles, with Alana Raymond winning 6-1, 6-2, and at No. 2 doubles, with Emma Schwind and Chloe Carlson winning 6-4, 6-3. Westfield is 4-3 and will play at No. 13 Zionsville on Thursday.

Noblesville, in the rankings this week at No. 20, fell to No. 7 Avon 3-2 in a Monday home match.
The Millers doubles teams got the victories, with No. 1 Kaylee David and Katelyn Decker winning 6-2, 6-2 and No. 2 Lina Hamashuk and Sierra Leach winning 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (3).
Noblesville’s Tuesday match with No. 17 Brownsburg has been postponed to Friday.
