Golf: Golden Eagles, ‘Hounds go 1-2 at Highland

The Guerin Catholic and Carmel boys golf teams finished first and second at the Highland Invitational on Saturday at Highland Country Club.
The Golden Eagles nosed out the Greyhounds 300-301. GC’s Jacob Modleski was the meet medalist with at 70, while Andrew White took fifth with a 74. Other Golden Eagles scores were Leo Wessel 76, Ben Burgan 80 and Christian Hein 85.
Carmel’s Patrick Michael finished in a tie for third by carding a 72. Sam Booth was next with a 75, followed by Joseph Armfield 76, Owen Sander 78 and Shoji Fujita 79.
On Tuesday, the Greyhounds played Cathedral at the Hawthorns Country Club, winning a weather-shortened nine-hole match 154-170.
Booth carded an even par 36 for medalist honors. Fujita was next with a 37, followed by Michael 40, Sander 41 and Armfield 41.
“These scores would be respectable under any circumstances, but given the weather conditions, they become all the more impressive,” said Carmel coach Josh Shelton.
Carmel will play this weekend at the Lake Central Invitational at Sandy Pines Golf Club in Demotte.

Hamilton Heights won a dual meet with Frankton 179-219 at Bear Slide on Monday.
Garrett James led the Huskies with a 43, followed by Ethan Millsaps 44, Lance Jones 46, Nathan Cox 46 and Vincent Harley 47.
Heights’ Tuesday match with Tipton has been postponed; the Huskies’ next competition is Thursday against Clinton Prairie.
