Swimming: Shamrocks sweep Brownsburg

The Westfield swim teams swept a home meet with Brownsburg on Thursday.
The Shamrock girls were victorious 105.5-80.5, winning 11 of the 12 events. Erin Verbrugge took first in the 50 freestyle and the butterfly, with Molly Ruggles pacing the individual medley and the backstroke. Other winners were Kerry Effinger (200 free), Lily Hunter (100 free), Katie Hand (500 free), Mia Herzog (breaststroke) and all three relays.
Westfield’s boys won 106-79, pulling away by taking the last three events. Chris Kenney was a double winner in the 50 free and the butterfly. Other victories came from Ben Hobson in diving, Nathanael Brown in the 500 free, Brett Calvin in the backstroke, Cameron Clayton in the breaststroke, the medley relay and the 400 free relay.
Both teams will travel to Hamilton Southeastern on Tuesday for a dual meet.

HSE dominates Franklin Central

The Hamilton Southeastern swim teams dominated their dual meet with Franklin Central on Thursday.
The Royals girls cruised to a 145-41 victory. Individual event winners included sophomore Kayleigh Witt (200 and 500 freestyles), junior Hannah Pugh (individual medley and butterfly), senior Emily Barnes (50 and 100 freestyles), sophomore Sarah Ballard (diving), freshman Olivia Harter (backstroke), and senior Madison Kertin (breaststroke).
Other great races and performances included a 1-2-3-4-5 sweep of diving (Ballard and juniors Ashley Sinicropi, Halli Siwik, Courtney Broyles, and Callie Legere), sophomore Maddie McNarney in the 100 free, and sophomore Madison Rossillo in the backstroke.
Southeastern’s boys team also won every event en route to a 148-35 victory. The Royals took the top two spots in all three relays and placed 1-2-3 in the 200 free, IM, 50 free, diving, 100 free, 500 free, and breaststroke.
Individual event winners included freshman Keegan Streett (200 free), sophomore Marcus Eden (IM), sophomore Connor Harrison (50 free), junior Nathan Barr (diving), sophomore DJ Rogers (butterfly), junior Blake Ratliff (100 free and breaststroke), sophomore Evan Sellers (500 free), and sophomore Ethan Forbes (backstroke).
Standout performances were abundant but some highlights included Sellers breaking the five-minute barrier for the first time in the 500; Streett, sophomore Cam Knurek, sophomore Holden Kesler, and junior Collin Matasovsky in the 500; Harrison in the 200 free; Ratliff, Rogers, and freshman Thomas Reising in the 100 breast; and the third place 200 free relay of junior Nick Bostock, freshman Alex Kaminski, freshman Justin Voelker, and freshman Zack Bostock.
HSE will travel to Brownsburg on Saturday morning for its third and final dual meet of the week.
