Steve Nation, current Hamilton County Councilor, announces his candidacy for re-election.

Nation has spent the last 45 years dedicated to protecting and serving the community. Before his first term on the County Council, he served in the position of Prosecuting Attorney for Hamilton County for four terms and as Hamilton County Superior Court Judge for four terms.

Nation is seeking re-election to the council because, although several projects have been accomplished in his first term, there is more work to be done. Thanks in part to Nation’s leadership on the council, which is the fiscal body of the county, Hamilton County is the only county in the state to earn a AAA bond rating, which reduces the cost to taxpayers when building. The county also has a $50 million rainy day fund to ensure county services are still available to citizens, even in times of recession. Nation reflects on his first term on the council as “Results promised and results delivered.”

The decision to seek re-election was guided by his desire to finalize three major projects.

“If the people of Hamilton County permit me to continue to serve, we will deliver on the county’s comprehensive response to behavioral health with an Assessment Center – which will enable more accurate diagnoses and treatment plans, the creation of a domestic violence shelter in the county, and the River Road Public Safety Training Facility,” Nation said.

Collaboration has been a central pillar of Nation’s leadership. His ability to work with council members, commissioners, mayors, trustees, government officials, law enforcement, firefighters, and business and community leaders has been instrumental in the county’s success.

Nation’s impact extends far into the community. The conception of Hamilton County’s Youth Assistance Programs started with him. One of the dreams of this program was to not only help individuals overcome obstacles, but for each child to reach his or her highest potential. The youth assistance program needed to have one more component added to it to truly be a comprehensive program; thus, in 2021, Nation also helped found and launch the Pursuit Institute. This initiative provides state-of-the-art opportunities and talent pipelines that drive Hamilton County’s economy, keeping school funding within the county.

Among his numerous awards, in 2017, Nation was awarded “Person of the Year” from the International Association of Truancy and Dropout Prevention, and in 2018, was granted the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash Award presented by Governor Eric Holcomb.

Nation lives in Noblesville with his wife of 40 years. They have two children and one grandson. Nation currently serves as Board President for Indiana Fallen Heroes Foundation and Secretary of the Noblesville Elementary Football League.
