State Rep. Tony Cook (R-Cicero) was recently selected to serve on the Interim Study Committee on Education.
The committee will examine assigned topics, gather testimonies and recommend potential legislation for the 2018 legislative session.
“This year, I authored two new laws including increasing course options for students and providing greater financial flexibility for school corporations,” Cook said. “As a member of the Interim Study Committee on Education, I will continue working with lawmakers to better prepare our future educators and make sure our school corporations have what they need to help our students be successful.”
Cook said the committee will focus on a variety of topics including studying new teacher induction programs, opportunities to establish innovative education policy under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, opportunities to maximize flexibility for school corporations, charter schools and accredited nonpublic schools based on changes made in federal law and the Department of Education’s plan to implement and comply with ESSA.
Cook said interim study committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas. Members of the public are welcomed to attend and testify.
