Spring Mill Meadows to hold educational session on elder fraud presented by Attorney General’s Office

American Senior Communities is partnering with the Office of the Indiana Attorney General to present a series of educational sessions on how seniors can avoid scams and fraud.

A session will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 at Spring Mill Meadows, 2140 W. 86th St., Indianapolis.

Elder fraud is the act of exploiting older adults for monetary gain, such as financial fraud or identity theft. Fraudsters take advantage of seniors through numerous fear-based tactics. By posing as grandchildren or romantic interests, or emailing about bogus investment opportunities, over $5.9 billion in losses occur each year among the senior population.

Elder fraud can have devastating effects not only financially, but emotionally as well.

A representative from the Office of the Indiana Attorney General will speak about common scams, how to identify and recover from them, and who to contact if someone believes they may be a victim of fraud. This event is free and open to the public and media.
