Softball roundup: Royals, Tigers win HCC finales

The Hamilton Southeastern softball team completed regular-season play with a 7-1 Hoosier Crossroads Conference win against Franklin Central.

The Royals scored five runs in the second inning. Madison Burlingame got the first run on Kaitlyn Burdick’s RBI fielder’s choice. Sophia Feher scored on a wild pitch, then Addy Richmond singled in Haleigh Seitz and Burdick. Kaleah McCarter finished things off by batting in Richmond.

Burdick smacked a two-run home run in the third inning, also scoring Burlingame, who had led off with a double. Burlingame had two hits.

Grace Swedarsky got the pitching win, striking out six in five innings.

Southeastern finished second in the conference with a 5-2 record. The Royals are 17-4 overall and play Fishers Monday in the first round of Sectional 8 at Zionsville.

Fishers finished up its regular season with a 2-1 HCC win over Brownsburg on Thursday.

All the runs were scored in the fifth inning. Caroline Thompson singled in Breana Henderson for the first run, then Thompson scored when Cate Summerfield reached on an error.

Joni Oliver pitched six innings for the win, striking out six.

The Tigers finished conference play 2-5 and are 15-9 overall.

Westfield beat McCutcheon 7-5 on Thursday to complete its season.

Three different Shamrocks hit home runs: Carlynne Schrock, Olivia Sampia and Reese Mahannah. Sofia Easterhaus and Alyssa Ayers both had two hits.

Mac Delph got the pitching win, throwing eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Westfield finished its regular season 13-10-1 and plays Sectional 8 host Zionsville Monday afternoon.

Guerin Catholic lost to Lapel 6-3 on Thursday.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Golden Eagles’ Kristin Brady got home on a wild pitch in the first inning to get Guerin Catholic on the board.

Ava Augustinovicz singled in Brady for a third-inning run, then Gia Crishon scored in the sixth inning after Lucille Rogers hit a sacrifice fly.

Crishon threw five strikeouts and allowed one hit in three innings of relief. Augustinovicz started and pitched four innings, striking out four.

The Golden Eagles are 6-9 and play Tuesday at the Lebanon sectional, facing the winner of Monday’s game between Frankfort and Danville.

Carmel fell to Roncalli 8-4 on Thursday.

The Royals scored a run in the first inning. The Greyhounds’ Winni Owens tied it up with a leadoff home run in the second inning.

Roncalli scored two runs in both the third and fifth innings to lead 5-1. Jayden Kleiner smacked a solo homer in the fifth inning. The Royals led 8-2 going into the seventh; Carmel scored twice in the bottom of that inning. Kleiner got home on Avery Klein’s RBI fielder’s choice, then Owens scored when Taylor Vietch drew a bases-loaded walk.

Owens finished with two hits.

Carmel is 12-12 and plays Tuesday at the Zionsville sectional, awaiting the winner of Monday’s game between Westfield and the host Eagles.
