The Sheridan Middle and High School Theatre Department offers families a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit with its production of Disney’s Frozen Jr. that will be presented on Dec. 3 and 4.

This year’s timing is unusual, in that normally at this time of the year the theatre department is holding auditions for a spring show.

“Due to upcoming both needed and much-appreciated auditorium renovations, the musical was pushed to a December production rather than an April one,” Director Johnny McGinnis said.

There is a larger cast than usual this year with 35 performers, and an equally large number backstage, consisting of multiple crews, including paint, costuming, lights, and stagehands.

According to McGinnis, “The students are thrilled to be a part of this show, as for many of them, Disney’s Frozen was a special part of their childhood. It is truly rewarding to see their faces light up as they take on these roles.”

A dress rehearsal was held last week, providing a glimpse of what the audience can expect at the show. Associate Director Libby Doublestein explained that not all of the costumes are complete, and some will be rented from a costume company.

“Sheridan’s theatre department has a great history of putting on outstanding performances, and this show looks like it will be another community favorite,” Superintendent Dave Mundy said.

The production will feature students from across the spectrum of theatre experience.

“We have a large group of veteran performers as well as many students who are new to the stage,” Doublestein added. “It is wonderful to see them working together and learning from each other as they prepare for the show.”

The Sheridan Theatre Department leadership includes Director Johnny McGinnis, Music and Associate Directors Libby Doublestein and Gretchen Rafferty, and Choreographer Katie Carter.
