Sheridan High School (SHS) has been recognized with a College Success Award from GreatSchools.org.

Other Hamilton County high schools recognized include Carmel, Hamilton Southeastern, Fishers, Westfield, and Noblesville. They are among just 81 high schools in Indiana to receive this honor, which is based on factors including graduation rate, college enrollment rate, and students not needing remediation in college.

SHS Principal Rick Davis said that his school continues to make sure students are college and career ready when they graduate. He credited participation in the Rural Early College Network (RECN) and the Advanced Placement Teacher Incentive Program (AP TIP) for accelerating the growth. In addition, Davis commented that students being involved in many different activities and athletics also helps prepare them for the rigors and challenges of college as the involvement helps build commitment, teamwork, and leadership.

Davis voiced pride in the way SHS has been able to add to its academic programs as a small school and credited the teachers for making it all work.

“Their dedication, knowledge, efforts, abilities, and genuine concern for our students in the process of teaching and learning is invaluable,” Davis said. “They recognize the needs and address them.”

Now in its fifth year, the College Success Award recognizes and celebrates public high schools that excel in ensuring students prepare for college, enroll in college, and succeed once they get there. In 2022, 1,742 schools in 25 states earned College Success Awards.

“Being recognized with a College Success Award is a tribute to the outstanding effort and accomplishment of our students, families, and staff,” Davis said. “This honor is a direct reflection of everything they do on a daily basis. It is confirmation of a job well done and a challenge to keep moving forward toward even better things.”
