The Sheridan community is coming together to celebrate the much-anticipated official opening of the United Animal Health Blackhawk Fieldhouse.

The state-of-the-art facility is complete with a fitness center, athletic area for basketball, wrestling, volleyball, etc., locker rooms, training facilities, and new health classrooms. This planning for this project began in 2021 with community meetings and the proper legal and procedural steps necessary for a project of this magnitude.

The grand opening will take place on Tuesday, April 23, beginning with a sold-out dinner, followed by a program and tours of the facilities. Although the dinner is sold out, Superintendent Dave Mundy welcomes patrons to contact him if they would like a tour. The grand opening festivities are being made possible through the generous support of over 20 local businesses.

Mundy

“This facility is a source of pride for the board, staff, students, and the entire community,” Mundy said. “Sheridan has a long tradition of taking pride in our schools, and this project is a perfect example of that. This is our first major construction in over 15 years, and we want to share this with the community.”

DeVinney

Athletic Director Beth DeVinney explained, “We have worked very hard to create a facility that will not only help our high school and middle school programs, but the entire community. This especially includes all our youth programs. It will take a lot of coordination, but we will work hard to collaborate to share this facility with all we can.”

Mundy added, “We have worked to create a facility that will last for generations and be a source of pride, while at the same time being mindful of cost and our responsibility to our taxpayers. No referendum money was used on this project as it was done with careful monitoring of our current funds. We think we hit the perfect balance!”
