Royals take first Mudsock trophy at golf meet

The first Mudsock trophy of the 2022-23 season went to the Royals on Tuesday night.

Sixth-ranked Hamilton Southeastern won the girls golf Mudsock meet, beating Fishers 163-193 at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville. The Royals’ Lauren Stewart was the meet medalist, scoring a 38.

Other Southeastern scores were Ella Bui 40, Cora Zink 41, Reese Hissong 44, Janelle Garcia 46 and Abby Strawmyer 49.

“Overall, they held it together,” said HSE coach Steve Guenin. “They did a nice job. It’s always fun to play these guys for the Mudsock each year, so that’s exciting with two schools getting together. We’re proud of the girls. Lauren did a great job. Ella continues to play steady. Cora’s doing a nice job. We’re doing a lot of nice things and moving in the right direction.”

Olivia Holding led the Tigers with a 43, followed by Kristi Lilek 48, Sarah Majeski 50, Kate Jansen 52, Lola Kivett 52 and Ayanna Bodake 59.

Over at Prairie View, No. 2-ranked Westfield won a close four-team meet with three other top 10 ranked teams on Tuesday.

The Shamrocks edged out No. 1 Carmel 156-157. No. 4 Noblesville was third with a 161, followed by No. 10 Zionsville with 169. Westfield’s Samantha Brown was the meet medalist with a 34. Other Shamrocks scores were Kelsey Haverluck 38, Addi Kooi 40 and Allie McKeown 44.

Michaela Headlee led the Greyhounds with a 37, followed by Claire Swathwood with 38, Kamryn Williams with 40 and Ava Nguyen with 42. Sophie Cassidy scored a 44 and Sophie Mock carded a 35.

Caroline Whallon and Jordan Adam both scored 37s for the Millers, with Karis Shields adding a 43 and Josie Kelley scoring a 44.
