Royals, ‘Rocks, ‘Hounds get Thursday tennis victories

The Hamilton Southeastern girls tennis team got a 5-0 dual-meet victory over Mount Vernon Thursday.
Tea Vrkic won a tough three-set match for the No. 6-ranked Royals at No. 1 singles, prevailing 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. All of the other matches were decided in straight sets, with No. 2 singles Taylor Wolf winning 6-0, 6-0 and No. 3 singles Novelle Lee getting a 6-1, 6-0 victory. In doubles, No. 1 Misha Bukkasagaram and Emily Orme were 6-1, 6-3 winners and No. 2 Meghan Slaninka and Kaylee Etheredge won 6-2, 6-0.
Southeastern is 13-2 and hosts No. 9 Homestead this afternoon for its regular-season finale.

Westfield, ranked No. 16, celebrated its Senior Night with a 3-2 win over No. 13 Cathedral on Thursday.
The Shamrocks swept the doubles, with No. 1 Maya Raymond and Olivia Krauss winning 6-1, 7-6 (2) and No. 2 Emma Schwind and Chloe Carlson getting a 6-1, 6-0 victory. No. 1 singles Isabella Norris won 6-1, 6-1.
Westfield will play at No. 3 Park Tudor this afternoon.

Carmel, ranked No. 2, beat No. 8 Fishers 4-1 on Thursday.
The Greyhounds will play No. 1 South Bend St. Joseph today at the Todd Witsken Tennis Center. The Tigers play at No. 25 Brebeuf Jesuit on Saturday.

Hamilton Heights dropped a 4-1 dual to Mississinewa on Thursday.
The Huskies’ No. 2 doubles team of Meredith Dodson and Katie Smith got the victory, winning in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.
Heights plays at Western today.
