‘Rocks girls beat FC for Smith’s 100th win

The Westfield girls basketball team had several reasons to celebrate once it got home from Franklin Central on Tuesday night.
The Shamrocks are back in the IBCA Class 4A poll at No. 8 this week. Westfield has gotten plenty of attention due to its long win streak, which became nine after the ‘Rocks beat the Flashes 52-20 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
The victory also marked the 100th career win for Westfield coach Ginny Smith. There was never a doubt that Smith would get to that milestone, as the Shamrocks outscored Franklin Central in each quarter and never allowed the Flashes more than nine point in a period.
Westfield led 16-8 after the first quarter and 25-11 at halftime, then blasted away in the third by outscoring FC 18-2. Alyssa Crockett led the way with 21 points, including three 3-pointers and an 8-of-8 performance from the free-throw line.
Hailey Remaks led the rebounds with six, while Crockett collected five. Olivia Robey made six steals.
The Shamrocks are 12-2 and will now prepare for the Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic next Wednesday, Dec. 29 at New Castle. Westfield plays Franklin Community in the 11 a.m. game., followed by the second game between Washington and South Bend Washington. The consolation game is set for 6 p.m., with the championship game to follow.
