Rest In Peace, Baxter

Mrs. Poteet spotted our cat Baxter at a Petsmart adoption event in Carmel 10 years ago. He was eight years old, and his owner had moved, keeping a dog but giving up this cat.

We could never figure out why. Baxter was friendly from the start. Maybe we saved him then.

We definitely bought him another three happy years once we started treating his diabetes. Twice a day with the shots, 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. He never complained. (It may have been the treats that always followed.)

Unfortunately, our little guy ran out of time this past week. He had a good run. We loved sharing our home with him, and I loved sharing his handsome face with people online and sometimes in our “Hello Hamilton County” videos.

My advice: if you are ever at a shelter, or any kind of adoption event, don’t overlook the “middle-aged” dog or cat. He was a warm, cuddly, loving, amusing companion that me and Mrs. Poteet already miss so much.

R.I.P. Baxter.
