The REPORTER

The Hamilton County Reporter has named senior Cole Thompson and junior Meredith Tippner as its Soccer Players of the Year.

As the goalkeeper for the Millers boys team, Thompson made 66 saves during the season with a 0.623 goals against average, helping Noblesville to a third consecutive state championship. But stats don’t come close to the courage and resolve of his post-season play, during which the Millers won penalty kick shootouts in the regional semifinals, regional championship and semi-state championship. Thompson’s defense was one of the differences in all three of those games.

Tippner has been a difference-maker since her freshman year, and her play helped Noblesville’s girls team to a second consecutive state title, and fourth in the last five years. She led the team in goals scored with 22 and also made five assists. In the state championship game, Tippner scored the goal that tied the game after the Millers fell behind 1-0, then provided the assists for the other two goals. She is one of two players to make two assists in a Class 3A state championship contest.
