The Noblesville Police Department announces that Sergeant Jason Shonkwiler has been named the 2025 Indiana School Resource Officers Association (INSROA) School Resource Officer of the Year.
This prestigious award recognizes officers who exceed the typical responsibilities of an SRO, enhancing their school and community through the roles of counselor, teacher, and law enforcement officer.
In addition to this honor, Shonkwiler also received the Exceptional Service Award, which is given to individuals who demonstrate continuous and outstanding service to the school community, surpassing the expectations of a typical SRO or school staff member.
“Jason exemplifies the ideal School Resource Officer,” Noblesville Deputy Chief of Police Jason Thompson said. “While he possesses exceptional skills as an officer, his most remarkable quality is his genuine care for the students. He has earned this award through his unwavering commitment to the school and its students, whether through daily interactions, managing complex situations, or providing expert coaching. At the Noblesville Police Department, we uphold the principle of ‘One Mission, One Family,’ and Jason has wholeheartedly embraced and implemented this philosophy at Noblesville High School. Many become police officers to make a difference, and Jason accomplishes that every day. We are truly grateful to have him as a member of our department and community.”
Sgt. Shonkwiler has been instrumental in fostering strong relationships with both students and faculty at Noblesville High School, significantly contributing to a safe and secure learning environment. He actively engages in school safety drills, delivers informative presentations on a variety of topics, and consistently offers valuable support and guidance to students facing difficulties.
The Noblesville Police Department takes pride in its partnership with Noblesville Schools through the SRO program, which places officers in every school building. This program aims to achieve several goals, including enhancing educational programs to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and students, ensuring security and threat prevention, and investigating incidents that occur on campus, among other objectives.
