The Midwest Tandem Rally, the largest tandem cycling rally in the United States, will “Race Back to Indiana” this Labor Day weekend in Westfield. This year marks a special return to the Hoosier state, which has hosted the rally more times than any other since the first rally took place in Kokomo in 1976.
The rally is an annual event held every Labor Day weekend, rotating locations across the Midwest. The rally draws hundreds of tandem cycling enthusiasts from across the U.S. and Canada for four days of riding and socializing. Past Indiana host cities include Kokomo, Anderson, Indianapolis, Shipshewana, Fort Wayne, and Columbus. The 2025 Midwest Tandem Rally will feature daily group rides, with the highlight being the Saturday and Sunday mass starts, when more than 200 tandem teams will roll out together from Grand Park in Westfield. The spectacle showcases the energy and camaraderie of tandem cycling at its best.
This year’s theme, “Race Back to Indiana,” celebrates Indiana’s central role in the rally’s history and pays tribute to the state’s world-famous motorsports heritage. The commemorative event jersey blends both traditions, depicting tandem bicycles sharing the track with iconic race cars.
As with all previous Indiana rallies, the 2025 event is hosted by Hoosiers Out On Tandems (HOOTs), part of Central Indiana Cycling, whose volunteers have been key to the success of MTR for decades.
“We’re thrilled to bring the Midwest Tandem Rally back to Indiana, where it all began,” Event Director Rick Stanley said. “Westfield provides the perfect blend of beautiful riding routes, vibrant community support, and easy access for riders from across the United States.”
